Tommy Newnam

James "Tommy" Newnan was one of the origional powerlifters in N.C. He lifted in the 181 and 165 lb weight classes. In the early 1970's he lifted far above his competitors with a 445 squat, 365 bench and 540 deadlift. He held the state records for many years.

  Tommy lifts again in 2005 and bench presses over 300 at 165 at 60 yrs !!!  He later set a National raw record of 310.8 lbs for 60-64 165 lb lifters
