R.L. Gurley was the origional master lifter in N.C. In his 40's , he would repeatedly outlift anyone in his class and set state records. While in his late 40's he benched 460 in the 220's before bench shirts were even thought of, while his squat was over 600 lbs . His performances could be only topped with today's equipment. Before his master years, he was a steady competitor. R.L. and his wife Phyllis are founders of the Hall of Fame.
