The origional North Carolina Hall of Fame for weightlifting was established in 1989 to honor the achievements of North Carolina Powerlifters and weightlifters. The first people were inducted in 1990. The North Carolina Barbell Hall of Fame exists to honor the lifters and promoters who have made North Carolina lifting great. The N.C. Barbell Hall of Fame will also serve to preserve the exploits and performances of all lifters in N.C. who have contributed on and off the platform. A minimum of two people are inducted each year into the hall of fame based on their contributions to the sport both on and off the platform. They are the best our sport has to offer. To be considered for the Hall of Fame one has to have been on top for five years as an athlete and had been active in our sport for ten. Special consideration is given to all aspects of one's service.
Induction into the North Carolina Barbell Hall of Fame is the top honor that can be given to anyone involved in lifting weights in North Carolina. Already in the Hall of Fame are the pioneers of our sport and future inductees will have a high standard to achieve.
The Hall of Fame will be active to promote our sport, and some of the inuctees are still active on the platform. There will be many events. The Hall of Fame website will chronicle the exploits of our past lifters and our great champions. The North Carolina Barbell Hall of Fame is for everyone in North Carolina who lifts weights.
